Why Dental Care Matters

Periodontal disease (gum disease) is one of the most common medical conditions seen by vets. More than 80% of dogs and over 60% of cats over the age of three have some form of periodontal disease.

If left untreated, oral conditions can cause halitosis (bad breath), difficulty eating, pain, and eventually tooth loss. Additionally, dental disease can lead to systemic complications such as kidney, liver, and heart disease.

Our Dental Services

Good oral health is essential to your pet’s wellbeing. Your pet's teeth will be checked during their annual health check. If early oral disease is identified, the vet will discuss a dental home care and monitoring plan.

In some cases, where more pronounced dental disease is suspected, we will recommend a full dental assessment. This thorough evaluation, along with any necessary treatment, can only be carried out under general anaesthesia, with treatment carried out as required.

Dental treatment involves charting the teeth, ultrasonic scaling and polishing to remove plaque and tartar, and extractions when necessary. Digital dental X-rays are performed to assess what is happening below the gum line.

Visiting Dental Expert: For complex cases, we are fortunate to have a Veterinary Dentist who visits us weekly to carry out advanced procedures.
